Last Friday, a taste bud challenge were given to us as we were invited by Globe My Business and Mercato Central at the BGC Tent at the Fort to come and witness aspiring Businessmen and Women to try to cater to one of the Filipino’s delight, eating.
The Next Big Food Entrepreneur is a battle between 100 hopeful small business entrepreneurs who partake in the sampling of 100 candidates. The best 15 will move on to the next stage and be one step closer to winning P100,000 startup capital.
The man behind Mercato Centrale is no other than RJ Ledesma who started an early carrier as a model. One of his well-known advertisements was “Royal Tru-Orange”, back in the days i guess in the late 90’s.\
The inspiration behind this was how to make the food market present here in the Philippines. As he discussed during one of our Globe My Business dinners, he mentioned about conceptualizing the food caravan more than 10 years ago when he and his wife roamed different parts of the Country. It would be nice if we can bring different flavors to the taste buds of our Filipinos back at home.
He was really scared at first not knowing what the response of the people were about a night food market. In the advent of mobile and online payments, the use of Globe GCash aides the avid taster to dine without having the hassle of payment.
Now, RJ and his partners would like to share their blessing by giving chance to the successful winner of the “The Next Big Food Entrepreneur” a chance to win a P100,000 startup capital.
I was able to test around 12 food booths only since they opened it for 2 hours only and it was more than i could handle. It was really a stomache-aching experience that tingled all the nerves on my tongue as i have tasted Indonesian food, Igorot and Ilocano cuisine, Visayan Lechon, Ice creams that melts your heart, and a lot of pastries and bread combinations.
