How HOOQ was formed
HOOQ is the brainchild of 7 of the brightest minds in the entertainment, broadcast and Telco industry, wherein they gave birth to this company just 7 days after conceiving the idea on how to bring video on demand over the top to the Filipino community.
Who are the companies behind HOOQ?
Starting from our local players, ABS-CBN, GMA and VIVA had forged alliances with HOOQ to bring entertainment from their own storage farms. Shows like Maging Sino ka Man, and Tanging Ina from ABS-CBN; Mulawin and My Husband’s Lover from GMA; Mano Po, and Shake and Rattle and Roll from Regal Films; Bagets, and A Secret Affair from Viva.
From the international markets, Sony Pictures will bring shows like Spiderman, and Men in Black; while Warner Brothers will bring movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, and the Dark Knight Rises.
Globe, paved way to have Mr. Peter G. Pithos, its former Chief Operating Advisor to lead the start-up company HOOQ as the Chief Executive Officer.
Price point of HOOQ’s service at P199
Though its a blend of both the local and international players with global standards in providing world-class entertainment, i would say it is fairly priced considering the following :
1) A selection of 10,000 plus titles that you can watch from the HOOQ app
2) It works in any flavor of your smart phone/phablet/tablet be it android or iOS
3) It allows multiple device user access
4) It allows you to store 5 movies in your device
5) You can change the stored 5 movies at any given time
6) Smart network. The quality of the video that will be rendered on your device will be based on the speed of the internet whether you are using wifi, unlimited data or lan connection
7) There will be more and more movies to choose from as time goes by
Availability of the HOOQ app will be from February 23, 2015 onwards. Right now it is on beta mode and not yet available on the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.
