GLOBE - HUAWEI SINGLESON SIGNING CEREMONY

Barcelona, Spain March 2, 2015 – Leading Philippine telecommunications company Globe Telecom is the first operator in the world to deploy Huawei’s SingleSON (self-organizing network) solution, empowering the telco to effectively manage a more complex network and deliver on its promise of superior customer experience.

Globe recently formalized its collaboration with Huawei for the pioneering SingleSON deployment during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain to optimize its wireless network performance, operation and maintenance (O&M). The solution enables the telco to manage the explosive growth and development of mobile data services traffic, which is foreseen to continue into the next decade.
With unprecedented growth in mobile data traffic and the rapid development of mobile broadband, new network technologies such as LTE-Advanced coupled with small cells are becoming a new trend to address explosive data growth. 5G technologies are likewise being defined and developed to serve the huge data requirements as the “Internet of Things” is expected to become widespread. Enabling Globe to operate an increasingly more complex and intelligent network, Huawei will leverage on its technological leadership in radio access network research and development to launch the innovative SingleSON solution which will improve overall network performance, O&M efficiency and quality.

The solution was recently tested live on the Globe mobile network’s 20,000 2G, 3G and 4G cells – the largest deployment thus far for Huawei SingleSON. According to Globe, the performance of the solution achieved remarkable results and exceeded expectations with immediate improvement on both drop call rates as well as users’ throughput. It also exhibited better sharing of radio resources between layers and technologies.Given these excellent outcomes, Globe said it plans to deploy the SingleSON solution nationwide in 2015.

Globe Chief Technical Advisor Robert Tan said that “the capabilities of the SingleSON solution in improving our network’s O&M efficiency and performance are impressive. It will allow us to continuously deliver a great user experience without additional manpower resources to manage an increasingly more complex network. We are pleased to collaborate with Huawei on the development of the SingleSON solution, and we look forward to work with them on new, innovative solutions under our strategic partnership framework.”

Jiang Wangcheng, President of Huawei SingleOSS Product Line, said that “we are honored to provide Globe Telecom with our SingleSON solution to enhance the state of their network O&M. The SingleSON technology will be further developed and enhanced with the development of future-oriented 4.5G, 5G, and other advanced wireless communications technologies. In this regard, we will continue providing innovative solutions to our customers in order to help them operate more efficiently and deliver a wonderful customer experience.”

According to Huawei, the features, development and improvements of the SingleSON solution’s first commercial trial performed on the Globe network were shared with several other trials in more than 25 networks in countries and regions such as China, Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa, South America, Australia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
