It’s Day 2 here at the Shangri-la Boracay Hotel, 830am as everyone convened at the main hall. All eyes focused on the main stage as Jimmy Go delivers a video message:
JIMMY GO: Good Morning. Distinguished CXOs, valued vendors, fellow leaders, partners and esteemed colleagues—welcome to the VSTECS CXO Tech Summit 2026, now in its ninth year.

While I deeply regret not being able to join you in person at this year’s conference, I am honored to extend my warmest greetings to all of you gathered here today.
The world is transforming rapidly through a combination of artificial intelligence acceleration, shifting geopolitical powers and environmental & climate pressures that outpace the past years of changes in the last centuries.
We meet at the crossroads of history—where Artificial Intelligence is no longer a promise, but a force rewriting the rules of industry. AI is the greatest game changer since the dawn of computers, unleashing a new era where memory has become the oil of the digital economy. Reports from Deloitte and Citi confirm that 2026 is the year we move past experimentation. It is the year to get results of AI.

It is my privilege to welcome you to this summit—a gathering of leaders shaping the future of the AI-driven enterprise. This year’s theme, “Rethinking IT: Powering the AI Driven Enterprise,” captures the urgency and opportunity before us: to reimagine technology not as infrastructure alone, but as the very engine of transformation across industries and societies.
Look around this room. We have leaders from banking, retail, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, real estate, BPO, and government. Different industries, different boardrooms, different problems. On paper, our businesses look entirely different. We track different metrics, answer to different regulators, and serve different customers. Yet I would bet that every one of us has had the same conversation in the last twelve months: “What do we do about AI?”

Artificial Intelligence has moved beyond experimentation; it is now reshaping industries, economies, and societies. The rise of AI has unleashed unprecedented demand for
computing power, with hyperscalers racing to build data centers and shifting the balance of supply and demand across the semiconductor industry.

Two years ago, AI was a demo. Last year, it was a pilot. This year, the leaders who are pulling ahead have moved it into production: into customer service, credit scoring, demand forecasting, document processing, and software development. AI is now able not just to answer questions but to take actions, working across systems the way a junior employee would. Technology is no longer a department. It is no longer something handed to IT and checked on at the end of the quarter. Technology is the core driver of margin, efficiency, and scale. The CXOs who win are those who stop viewing tech as an operational support mechanism and start viewing it as their primary weapon. Technology is now the business itself.

- In Healthcare: Technology isn’t just managing patient records; it’s using predictive AI to discover life-saving molecules in days instead of decades.
- In Logistics: It isn’t just routing trucks; it’s deploying autonomous systems and real-time algorithmic orchestration to completely bypass legacy supply chain bottlenecks.
- In Finance: It isn’t just hosting a mobile app; it’s processing millions of micro transactions per second using decentralized systems and autonomous fraud detection vectors.
- In Manufacturing: The greatest risk your organization faces today is not the failure of a new technology initiative. The greatest risk is the illusion of safety in inaction.
In a fast-moving market, waiting for a technology to become “100% stable” before adopting it is a death sentence. By the time it is stable, your competitors have already optimized it, scaled it, and captured the margin. In the exponential era, perfection is the enemy of survival. Agility, iteration, and a relentless willingness to cannibalize your own successful products are the only true forms of risk management.

At VST ECS Phils, we sit in a unique place. We work with the world’s leading technology brands on one side, and with hundreds of resellers, integrators, and enterprises across the Philippines. We see what is being built globally, and we see what is
actually being deployed here at home. What works. What stalls. What gets bought and never used.
At the heart of this transformation lies high-bandwidth memory and server DRAM shortage. AI workloads consume exponentially more memory, driving shortages and price surges that ripple across the global economy. Just as oil fueled the industrial age, memory now fuels the intelligent enterprise.
———
Allow me to illustrate this journey with a timeline that captures the surge in memory prices and its cascading effects.
———
But these numbers are not just statistics—they represent real consequences across industries. Prices of memory and SSD have more than doubled in the past months and shortage will continue due to the high demand. According to Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, there is no end in sight for memory shortage. Over 75% of its 2027 output is already sold out. Micron expects memory and storage supply-demand conditions to be much tighter in calendar 2027 and 2028 than they were in 2026.
———
The shockwaves extended far beyond chipmakers:
For Servers & Storage, allocation shifted heavily toward hyperscalers. Enterprise IT deployments slipped into 2027. Server high-speed DDR5 prices rose nearly 100% quarter on quarter, inflating budgets and delaying smaller enterprise rollouts.
PCs & Notebooks reduced shipments, redesigned configurations, and in some cases downgraded specs. Consumer notebook prices rose 30–50%, with higher costs for mid range models.
Smartphones also had rising costs, forcing brands to raise prices or cut shipment targets. IDC projected a 13% drop in global smartphone sales in 2026.
———
And while many struggled, some companies emerged as clear winners in this supercycle: ———
Even as the pace of price increases has slowed, uncertainty remains. Stability is elusive, and whether costs will normalize—or return to pre-surge levels—remains an open question.
———
Closer to home, the Philippines is stepping boldly into this new era:
President Bongbong Marcos has approved EO 119, the Data Sovereignty law updating the Philippine Government’s data classification framework and data residency policy, and strengthening data sovereignty. More than regulation, it is a foundation of trust. It
compels us to build secure, sovereign infrastructure, accelerates investment in local data centers, and creates new opportunities for Filipino talent.
AWS is reportedly planning to invest $5 billion, establishing a Philippine cloud region, creating thousands of high-value jobs, and strengthening competitiveness in the global digital economy.
The Pax Silica Initiative is a bold national vision to establish the Philippines as a center for semiconductor and AI infrastructure, shifting from raw ore exports to domestic processing and value creation.
———
Major local and multinational manufacturing companies in the Philippines are adopting artificial intelligence (AI) primarily for supply chain optimization, automated quality control, and enterprise resource planning.
———
GCash, Maya, and fintech startups use AI credit scoring to extend loans to 12 million Filipinos who previously lacked formal banking history.
Platforms like Trusting Social and JuanHand analyze telecom and e-wallet data, enabling access to ₱55 billion in nano-loans and building credit profiles for underserved borrowers.
AI-driven credit assessment reduces loan approval times from days to minutes, improving financial inclusion while maintaining compliance with BSP standards.
———
AI now handles 75–85% of routine call center interactions, cutting costs by up to 65% while raising customer satisfaction scores by 13 points.
Filipino agents are evolving into CX Architects, focusing on complex, emotionally sensitive, and revenue-critical conversations.
The industry still generates $42 billion annually, shifting toward “intelligence arbitrage,” where AI augments human empathy rather than replacing jobs.
———
AI-enabled tools like UpToDate Expert AI and diagnostic imaging systems are being piloted to support doctors in underserved regions.
With only 4 doctors per 10,000 people, AI helps bridge workforce gaps by assisting in diagnosis, telemedicine, and clinical decision support.
In education, Artificial Intelligence is no longer theoretical—it is delivering tangible impact through government-led initiatives and DepEd projects designed to improve efficiency, equity, and student outcomes.
———
Beyond education, AI is also reshaping the creative landscape:
———
In Software Development, AI has made development easier. Tools like GitHub Copilot and AI assistants write, complete or refactor code blocks based on natural language prompts. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, and Cursor are among the AI tools making software development faster and easier.
Yet apprehensions remain: infrastructure bottlenecks, talent shortages, and organizational skepticism. Only 2% of firms have scaled AI beyond pilots, and rural areas still face connectivity gaps.
