It is an honor to be here with many of you physically, seeing everyone’s faces. A pleasant morning as well to those joining us virtually. Thank you all for being part of this year’s Philippine Digital Convention.
Allow me to start off with a quote from legendary basketball coach and 10-time US NCAA champion John Wooden, who once said: Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be. These words have never been more meaningful in the recent years, as businesses braced from disruption brought about by crises. Enterprises of all sizes were forced to change ways of working as they shifted to digitalization. Consumers were also required to adapt to the rapidly changing digital landscape.
Every year, our hosting of Digicon shows how much technology has changed, and how far PLDT has come. From a traditional telco offering landlines, we now face a digital world with limitless possibilities far beyond our imaginations.
As an enabler of digital transformation, I am proud to say that the PLDT Group has always been at the forefront of change. We have been enabling enterprises in their transformation goals through innovative solutions and world-class infrastructure. We have also been consistent in providing the best fixed and wireless services to our customers, attested by recognitions and awards from independent and globally-renowned internet analytics firms. In all these, we have also committed to embed sustainability in the way we do business responsibly, to ensure significant and lasting value for future generations in the digital innovations that we offer.
However, digital transformation goes beyond acquiring technology. It requires reshaping the culture, practices, principles and outlook of businesses. The key to fulfilling and sustaining the gains of transformation rests on the hands of business leaders. I can say this from personal experience, as we ourselves are undergoing a transformation within the PLDT Group. We articulate the value of digital transformation and holistic sustainable development – from Chairman MVP, our Leadership Team, down to the very last employee – firmly believing that inspired leadership fuels positive change.
Transformation is not a one-off game with a fixed set of rules that leads to an aspired endpoint. Oftentimes, rules change mid-game. This requires a steadfast leader that inspires, coaches, and leads players to be proactive, agile, and open to new trends. It calls for infinite leadership – leading with an understanding of the long haul and the need to proactively shift gears. These keep businesses relevant and resilient to inevitable change and disruptions.
Change can be intimidating. My hope is that this year’s Philippine Digital Convention reinforces how leaders and the rest of their organizations can be transformed and powered by it. This year’s Boundless theme is fitting because after the recent challenging years, during which most businesses took bold steps to digitization, the time has now come for us all to leverage on the boundless opportunities presented amidst crises. We are inspired by those who were challenged, yet chose to focus on possibilities instead of threats, thus managing to thrive with the help of digital technology.
Technology evolves constantly. Every year, we aim for those at Digicon to grasp it through relevant concepts and insights that can help you prosper and thrive in the digital age. As you continue to navigate infinite possibilities, trust that we at PLDT will remain committed to empowering your transformation with the right technology. Together, let us push past limits for ourselves, our organizations, and for a more digitally-enabled Philippines.
