Ookla Speedtest Global Index : Ph mobile and fixed internet download speed improves

The Philippines jumped 10 spots in terms of mobile download speed at 25.77 Mbps, and displays consistent download speed improvement in fixed broadband at 32.73 Mbps based on the January 2021 data of the Ookla Speedtest Global Index*. 


Currently ranked 86th in the world on mobile, the Philippines has been seeing numerous improvements thanks largely to the telco industry’s sustained investments in network infrastructure development. 


Globe Telecom for its part was able to build 1,300 new towers in different locations all over the country last year or 18% more compared to 2019.

As a steady supporter of the government’s initiative to improve the country’s state of connectivity, Globe Telecom has led new cell site builds based on a report of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

Globe Telecom is also undergoing network upgrades to utilize more advanced technology to improve overall data experience. Around 90 percent of Globe Telecom’s cell towers are now equipped with 4G LTE technology. 

“Our rigorous site builds are starting to pay off. We are getting acknowledged by our customers who are feeling the service and internet improvements in areas where we have done new builds or site upgrades. As we continue our network improvements, our quality of service will be at par with our ASEAN neighbors,” said Ernest L. Cu, Globe Telecom’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
