Women of today are empowered to do it all and go the extra mile. One of these admirable women is Analyn Virinia who, through hardwork and perseverance, was able to provide food on her family’s table when their main source of livelihood suffered due to the pandemic.
Analyn’s husband, a maintenance worker, was lucky enough not to lose his job but due to quarantine restrictions, his work sked was cut in half. This means the family income was also reduced by more than half.
Despite the bleak situation, Analyn remained unfazed. She was able to complement her husband’s earnings with the help of her sari-sari store where she sells basic items and Globe prepaid load.
“Dati po ang kinikita ng asawa ko, [nasa] isang linggo po ay limang araw po ‘yung pinapasok niya. Ngayon po ay dalawang araw na lang po. Napakalaking kakulangan po nito sa amin pinansyal. Kaya po todo sikap din sa sari-sari store at saka sa Globe na pang-load,” Analyn said.
This month, Globe Telecom joins the rest of the country in celebrating the role of women in society as the company recognizes women micro entrepreneurs — whose admirable resilience make them heroes in their own right.
“Ngayon po napakalaking bagay po ng Globe na pang-load kasi ito na po ‘yung pinaka, nagpapasurvive sa amin,” adding that aside from food like canned goods and instant noodles, Globe Load is one of the most-bought items from her store since families and friends who were kept apart from each other could only communicate through voice calls or video messaging apps.
Globe Telecom Executive Vice President for Channel Management Bernie Llamzon said retailers like Analyn are a very important part of the business’ value chain. They are the bridge to serve the grassroots communities. “This National Women’s Month, we would like to thank and honor the women who keep the community stores running, supporting their communities.”
For about two decades now, Globe Telecom has been providing sari-sari store owners additional sources of income from its various products such as Globe Prepaid and TM SIM cards, prepaid load cards, and electronic load.
Globe Telecom’s assistance to micro entrepreneurs is in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG), specifically UN SDG No. 8 which calls for Decent Work and Economic Growth; and No. 9 which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
