NBA, Solar Entertainment and ABS-CBN forms partnership

The National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced a new, multi-year broadcast partnership in the Philippines with Solar Entertainment Corporation (Solar) and ABS-CBN Corporation (ABS-CBN).

The announcement was made at a press conference in Manila by NBA Asia Managing Director Scott Levy, Solar Entertainment Corporation President and CEO Wilson Y. Tieng, and Head of ABS-CBN Narrowcast March Ventosa, who were joined by NBA Legend Darryl Dawkins.

Under the agreement, Solar, through its Basketball Television (BTV) and NBA Premium TV channels, and ABS-CBN through its ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Sports & Action channels, will broadcast more than 30 NBA games per week. Solar and ABS-CBN will also continue to televise WNBA games and programming.

Entering its 14th year as a partner of the NBA, Solar will continue to provide extensive exposure and promotion of all local NBA events including NBA 3X and Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA. ABS-CBN has broadcast NBA games since 2012 and through this new agreement, fans will have the opportunity to watch more NBA games, programming, and local event coverage on ABS-CBN’s free-to-air channels.

“We’ve come a long way from a simple idea in 2001 to bring the NBA to avid Filipino basketball fans,”said Tieng. “Fourteen years later through this partnership with the NBA and ABS-CBN, we are bringing the games to the broadest possible fanbase across the nation.”

“The NBA is the premier professional basketball league in the world, and we are pleased to bring the NBA closer to all our Kapamilya nationwide via non-stop NBA basketball action throughout the season, on both ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Sports + Action channels,” said Ventosa. “We partner with only the best in class to bring top content from around the World, and we are proud to be the official free-to-air broadcast partner of the NBA in our basketball-loving country, the Philippines.”

“Solar is one of our longest-standing global partners, and together with ABS-CBN we are offering the most comprehensive coverage of the NBA in the Philippines,” said Levy. “As part of this partnership, we will create new and unique content to bring the best NBA action to our passionate Filipino fans.”
